THE DUST DIVE FLASH CD RELEASE
Release show for Tens of Thousands CD from The Dust Dive Flash. All songs written and performed by Laura Ortman (violin, vocals, electric guitar, piano, chord organ, casio) of The Dust Dive. CD recorded by Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, etc.).

RADIO 4x4 TUNE (IN)))
No amplified sound; audience members will get loaned radios with headphones to choose to listen to the four individual performances or the mixed group performance on five radio channels. The performers will each use radio frequencies in this performance: 31 Down (receiving phone calls via web) + Anna Friz (performing by phone from Montreal) + Todd Merrell (using shortwave receptions) + Tom Roe (using FM, AM, police scanner, and other frequencies). Friz will be phoning in "a live outdoor transmission for story, instruments, and weather," from Canada. A phone number will be available to call-in to the 31 Down portion of the performance. And Merrell and Roe will add the sounds of the local frequencies.

TODD MERRELL SOLO PERFORMANCE
Since 1978, Todd Merrell has been fascinated with the imperceptible environment of electromagnetic radiation that shortwave radio and processing can capture, and transform into an immersive, musical environment. "The focus of the work is not on acheiving any particular musical moment, but on the ephemerality of sonic transformation itself. Unlike compositions that utilize radio in part for its referential or signifying qualities, [Merrell] is more in the minimalist tradition of relying on the primacy of the material itself. The work is a celebration of the radio as material and of the belief that minutiae and limited systems can yield rich results. Merrell studied music composition and voice at Berklee College of Music, and with composer James Sellars of the Hartt School. His works have been performed by The New York Festival Of Song, Chicago A Capella, and double bassist Robert Black of Bang On A Can Allstars.

Frequencies (a series of exhbitions and events taking place February 2 - March 5, 2007) is artist Jordon Schranz's curatorial debut, which was inspired by the culmination of experiences and people encountered during five years of touring and performing within the avant-rock and free-jazz scenes. He owes much to his partnership with artist/musician Marie Evelyn, and to Steve Trimboli of Goodbye Blue Monday -- who have helped greatly in the conceptualization and creation of this show.

Frequencies is about connectedness -- a scene, a community.

Frequencies is an experiential and holistic exhibition which captures facets of the DIY community and extends outside the physical bounds of the gallery -- referencing both "public art" and "life as art" movements. It questions the artist-viewer vs. musician-audience relationships, and thus the cognitive division between visual art and music, gallery and rock venue. The Black & White Gallery in Williamsburg will be visually and functionally converted into an experimental music space; and over twenty performances will take place within and outside the gallery throughout the month, further blurring the division between staged performance and living art. Additional venues -- including Goodbye Blue Monday, Cake Shop, Glasslands, free103point9 Project Space, The Tank @ Collective:Unconscious, The Tooth, and Raven's Den -- will serve both as galleries and as concrete manifestations of the intangible music community.
